Technic Double-Acting Compressor

This is a simple compressor based on the new gear motor from LEGO and a pair of small pistons. By using two pistons we can increase the output. Not that the pistons work in opposition. When one is pumping, the other is drawing. Use it with the Technic Technic Pressure Switch.

The main difficulty in designing a compressor is making sure it says together as the pressure builds up. To this end, I have employed the single-bend beams. The high slope structural element and the single-bend beams give the structure a futuristic look that departs from the linear Technic philosophy.

You can see the 6x axles peeking out the back of the structure. I could have cut them down to 5x but...

Note that I used 3x friction pins to fasten the single-bend beams up top, and the 3x axle with locator peg on the bottom.

Finally, we see how the whole thing goes together. With the 24T gear removed, you can see that I used a 1x2 with two holes to get the spacnig to work properly.

The compressor has a number of mounting options. It took me about 3 hours of fiddling over two days to get this design just right. Even so, I am sure there are some improvements that can be made. If you have any ideas, let me know.
